Passed the 5K mark with my LJ+DW comment count, so: a meme.

Disclaimer is that I probably won't start on this until at least this coming weekend, when I'll be heading into a hiatus due to work.

First impressions o/

Charles likes Josh! He really want to help Josh! But it's the funny situation where, on the one hand, Josh is a kid, and needs and deserves support from the adults in his life... but on the other hand, Josh has been through so much. The camp situation on a whole, with the timelines getting mixed up... it's just so strange for Charles, as a person from the beginning of a movement/struggle, to now be here with so many people, such as Josh, who are from the deep, dark middle of it. So Charles enjoys interacting with Josh on a more mundane level -- chit-chatting! science! mutants! -- but also wants to get to know him on a deeper level, while recognizing what a dark thing that is. And he's Charles fucking Xavier, so it's not something that he shies away from. But it's definitely something that's unknown territory and that he's figuring out as he goes.

JOSH REALLY RESPECTS CHARLES XAVIER like no matter what has happened or will happen he will always feel a great swell of respect and gratitude to the man because the Xavier Institute was the only place to open its doors to him after it came out he was a mutant and he got kicked out of his home. And he is all the more grateful considering they really didn't have to open their doors to him considering he used to run with the anti-mutant gang the Reavers, but they did and Professor Xavier himself was one of the first to welcome him into the school. They gave him a home and a family when he no longer had one (... and then M Day happened and he lost both of those things once again BUT MOVING ON).

The thing is though, is that Professor Xavier left the school and turned over control of it to Cyclops and Emma Frost not long after Josh joined the Institute (how long is... difficult to say because lol comic book timelines) so he's really more familiar with the man's legacy than the man himself. So meeting this Charles, this young and bright Professor X who still has his metaphorical training wheels on is... well it's definitely interesting.

He thinks he's rather nice and would be open to chit chat and science talk with the man, but so much crap has happened in Josh's world and to Josh personally and Charles so obviously still has his shiny plastic wrapper on, that Josh actually feels kind of guilty whenever the more troubling stuff about his world comes up because it's deeply messed up and unpleasant to hear and he doesn't want to put any burden on anyone. Josh has also been screwed over by a lot of the adults in his world too, so he's also really gun shy about trusting/relying on any of them ever again.

Like he has no urge to hold any of the X adults here accountable for the actions of their counterparts, and he's not carrying any grudges, but the X kids are all really deeply entrenched in the mentality that they take care of each other and can only rely on one another, and they're all fine with it too. Like they all rather think they're better off for it.

So while he'll be open to speaking to Charles about mundane things and eve n some of the not so mundane things about his world, he will always be holding some things back because Charles, like the other adults, hasn't earned the right to see all of Josh's cards yet. And for the time being, he's planning on keeping as much of a death grip on those last cards as he needs to.
