Jay's a mutant, obviously! He comes from a small town where mutants are rrreally frowned up, which was a part of why his girlfriend's (Julia) dad got pissed enough to uh, shoot a big hole in him and temporarily kill him whiiiiich led to him waking up at the bottom of a pond with his girlfriend's body just chilling there holding him because she was so upset that she killed herself to be with him. Right after he brought her body up, he tried to kill himself repeatedly so that he could join her in death, but lol healing factor made that impossible! This was a cause of great trauma and he still thinks about Julia constantly. He got sent to Xavier's partly in order to help him move on from this event. His roommate was murdered shortly after he arrived, so that was good times, too. After all this happytime, he doesn't usually want to die now, and he's been moving on and making friends, but sometimes when he's epic upset, it comes up in his thoughts.
He also thinks about his family a lot! He's got ten brothers and sisters including one newly adopted one, and his older brother and sister are both mutants/X-Men. Two of his younger siblings were mutants as well, but got depowered after M-Day, however!
And I guess that's the last part, Jay is from after M-Day, which means knowing that there are very few mutants left in the world is also something that weighs on his mind a lot.
