Disclaimer is that I probably won't start on this until at least this coming weekend, when I'll be heading into a hiatus due to work.

Impressions on Phoenix and tiny Jean!

So the Phoenix thing is a little bit "o_____0" for Charles. Not as much as it would have been if he had met Phoenix without having had all of this time in camp with gods and wizards and magical ponies. Because at the point of XMFC, things are at least presented as being based in science ("science"). And then suddenly: FIERY COSMIC ENTITY INSIDE HEAD I mean seriously wtf. Part of Charles can't help but... find Phoenix fascinating. Because... fiery cosmic entity inside head! But that isn't his primary feeling toward Phoenix, because there's so much anger and fear there, it's clearly not a good situation for either Phoenix or Jean, both are hurting.

Regarding Phoenix's threats toward Charles... Honestly, he's genuinely more concerned about her whole "burn the world" thing. People hating him or being pissed off at him, with varying levels of justification, is nothing new. He has a sort of detached view of it -- he more assesses it in regard to how it might affect Phoenix's actions, what threats it might increase/decrease toward others, etc.. He's not entirely unaffected by it -- it's obviously rather shaking to have anyone, especially something so powerful, passionately want to kill you -- but Charles is very defiant about victimhood. It's a coping thing -- he pretty much just... refuses it, mentally/emotionally speaking, in order to help himself get through it.

As for tiny!Jean, she gave Charles some insight into Phoenix. Charles has very personal experience with how terrifying one's own power can be and how such power can twist a person. And it's very linked in with Phoenix, in that there's just this... mystery, trying to figure out exactly what happened/will happen as part of trying to figure out what to do when Phoenix blows her cap.

Also, Charles still does have a good amount of "......WHAT DO" when it comes to young girls. (Unlike a certain metalbender I could name.) Charles is definitely most comfortable as one of the guys. As he gets older and more experienced and develops his teaching chops, it won't make as much of a difference, but on a personal level... yeah. Definitely more comfortable with boys.

Relationship for Jean and Charles?

Jean is kind of half angry and upset and half confused. She's angry at 'him' for sealing her powers and Phoenix away because wtf what gives 'him' the right to do this to her! And on the other hand, Charles isn't... the same professor. She can't blame him for this. So it's a bit of a tug of war. She is mad that he didn't tell her he was the one who sealed Phoenix away though.

At the same time, she is also worried the Phoenix will want to kill him? SHE'S JUST really confused and frustrated and doesn't know what to do about it. Because Charles isn't exactly the Charles she knows. And while she respects him the same way, it's just not quite the same. She does want to protect him so she has been hesitant about approaching him out of fear that Phoenix will just break free suddenly and do something she'll regret.

I'm not sure if that makes sense. She definitely still loves Charles. Father figure and all (even if it's the younger version) There are just too many complicated feelings involved.
