*shakes his head with a laugh, both fond and slightly exasperated*

*clicks the skip-forward button -- and nothing happens. frowns. clicks again. it keeps on playing.

...sighs.*

Well, I suppose that was inevitable. There are worse things than enduring sentimental ballads, at least.

This is just getting a little melodramatic now.

*clicks the skip-forward button again, just to see -- it still refuses to work*

*goes back over to his bed, digs through the books in his bag, pulling out a current genetics textbook. starts flipping through it, not paying too terribly much attention to the music, though he is humming along (not very well) by the end of it*

*doesn't lift his eyes from the page, but slowly stops reading*

*shakes his head with a quiet huff, resuming his reading*

*breathes out a laugh of relief at the high-powered emoting, the overblown romance novel-esque lyrics a sort of comfort*

*after couching himself in amusement with the previous song, he's able to let himself be lulled into just enjoying the beauty of this one as he reads, though it seems a bit wistful*

*closes his book. then opens it and lets the pages fall past his fingers like a flip book, text and diagrams blurring into indecipherable motion.*

*the CD drive pops open on its own*

*goes back over to the laptop and puts the CD back into its case. glances at the network icon -- he never did get around to checking it -- but just closes the laptop.

it's getting late. he's tired. going to the mess hall for dinner seems not worth the trouble tonight.

returns to his bag and pulls out the copy of The Once and Future King.*
