[It's early, not too long after sunrise, when the light begins to glow through the curtains and the nocturnal moaning of the zombies crossfades into rustling of the sentient plantlife. No explosions, no battles -- just an utterly normal morning.]

[ with the pleasure of the touch and further distraction of his mouth, Erik's own fingers have stilled on Charles's side, but he soon begins to stroke over his ribs, not aiming to distract Charles in the least but to add to his own enjoyment at the feel of his skin. his arm is curved around Charles's back and occasionally brushes the line where their bodies meet. ]

*unlike some of their more intense encounters, where the points of connection between them are like striking fire, if called upon to describe them now, Charles would see each tight press of their bodies as a warmly glowing dot that could be connected, each to its neighbor, drawing a pathway that's something like home.*

[ pauses and then pulls the kiss apart, though he doesn't go far -- it's not meant to break one of those points but rather create a new one by tipping their heads together. they're still so wrapped up in each other that Charles will be able to feel the ache that welcomes the thought. ]

*his breath hitches and the fingers of the hand curled around Erik's side tighten*

[ just stays there like that for a while, aware of their bodies' contact through Charles.

and, of course, through himself, which allows awareness where Charles has none, pathways that go only one way where their legs touch.



he shifts his hand down Charles's side once again, though this time there's no upsweep, instead settling now to grasp Charles low on his hip. ]

*neither sensing himself through others nor sensing things solely through others without any of his own input is new to him, but the two combined into one still retains some novelty. he sinks into it, still, almost as though going back to sleep.*

[ there's an ebb and flow to it, as Erik's fingers begin to move over his skin, from where Charles can feel him to where he can't, mapping it in his mind. he starts at his hip and moves around to his back, but aside from this, he matches Charles's stillness. ]

Don't stop.

[ he doesn't, his touch lingering but deliberate, looking down with their heads still pressed together to get a visual sense of where he is on Charles's body. ]

*it's not a complete cut-out of sensation but nor is it some sort of gradual fade -- below the injury, it's like suddenly hitting severe radio static, only where the static is silence that eventually takes over completely. the initial drop-off around the waist is rather precipitous, but feeling actually doesn't truly disappear until about midway down his hips.*

[ then it will be necessary to push his pajamas down a bit out of the way of his fingers ]

*his voice is low and a bit rough from disuse as his lips curve into a smile, eyes still closed*

You're going to make both of us very impatient.

[ his answer is unhurried, a trail of fingertips up to more sensitive flesh, catching the smile out of the corner of his eye but not looking up from the path of his own hand ]

I'm very patient when I want something enough. Now is the time for information gathering.

Speaking as a scientist, I greatly appreciate your methodology.

Mm. Less good at impartial observation.

You should work on that, then.

But I like affecting my subject.

[ he stills in his exploration with his hand on Charles's back over the metal and thinks, not for the first time, of how easy it would be to hurt him. it's not a temptation, precisely; it's like standing on the edge of a cliff and knowing you could go over with just a step, that the most insignificant action can have devastating consequences, the power and terror of it. the only difference is that it's already happened. ]

[ and there's that sense of commonality, a security and almost relief, at knowing that potential for disaster, at being able to share forever living on that edge -- a conviction of the profundity of that bond. ]

*moves his hand up from Erik's chest to his face, again just tracing an idle path with the backs of his fingers*

[ closes his eyes and nods almost imperceptibly save that the movement shifts his face against the touch, as though something has just been confirmed for him ]

*tips his face to kiss him again, slowly and deeply*

[ sinks into it, exhaling ]

*will let him sink as far as he wants to go*

[ doesn't do things by half-measures, so will go far for Charles, but only so far for himself ]

*doesn't push, just knows where he is every step of the way, letting Erik knows that he knows, that sense of you'reI'mhere like when you can feel someone watching you with love*

[ and he won't pull back from it, but there is the need to anchor it in the physical, even if that can also only go so far (on neither of their terms)

he kisses Charles more fiercely and pushes up onto an elbow, the hand in Charles's hair moving behind his legs so that they won't get tangled when the force of the kiss urges him onto his back ]
